This return to film has grown over the last decade, not just in the wedding world but across fashion, editorial, and lifestyle photography too. I think we’re all craving something more tactile, something that feels nostalgic and real, after years of everything shifting towards the fast and filtered world of digital. Documenting weddings on film feels less like a trend and more like a return to storytelling.

For me, it’s always felt natural. I grew up looking at my parents’ and grandparents’ wedding photos captured on film. Those photographs had a kind of permanence to them. They weren’t just snapshots, they were heirlooms. That connection to the past is something I love weaving into modern weddings.

Film is also how I fell in love with photography in the first place. I learned the manual settings, trusting light meters, and spending hours in darkrooms developing rolls by hand. It taught me patience. It taught me to look, not just shoot. Watching those tiny moments develop into physical prints right in front of me did something that digital never quite matched.

Lately, we’re fortunate to offer film alongside digital in many of the weddings we shoot. There’s still an excitement when the scans come back because you never fully know what you’ve captured until you see it. It forces you to slow down. You become more mindful of every frame because with only 24 to 36 exposures per roll, every single click counts. It makes you observe more closely and compose shots with more care.

And the result? It’s always worth it. The depth, the softness, the colour tones, the way film handles highlights and skin. It’s impossible to replicate digitally. It feels emotional. Honest. Sometimes imperfect, but always beautiful.
